Description:

In the great conversation of Bill Russel and Uncle Drew, “This game has always been and always will be about buckets.” All athletes want to go get a bucket and score points. In our Scoring and Finishing Camp athletes will learn how to use their attributes properly to learn how to score consistently and finish with pressure. There will always be defense so as an athlete it is important to understand how to play with pressure. Players will learn multiple ways to score the basketball: getting to the basket in traffic, driving layups, floaters, runners, and 1 & 2 foot finishes. Skill focuses include finishing through contact, proper footwork, body control, and hand placement to protect the ball. Players will also learn the lost art of the mid-range game thru drills that focus on getting to the open spot on the floor, proper footwork with and without the basketball and how to score against a zone defense. Having a great mid range game will open up the floor with lots of possibilities not only for yourself but for your teammates as well.

Training Focus’s:

  • Scoring: Players will learn proper shooting technique including footwork, balance, hand positioning and follow through mechanics. Focusing on body positioning will also help players learn to score off dribble drives as well as create shots for themselves and teammates. Scoring is all about placement from defense and where you want to go. What skills are you using to move the defense away from where you are going. Combo skills and counter moves are effectively used to shis

  • Shot Selection: Players will learn the importance of shot selection and decision making. When to take shots, creating space and reading the defense are all keys to scoring effectively. Finding your go to spots is helpful to gain rhythm and confidence in shooting. Athletes will learn it is okay to miss shots, move on to the next one with confidence.

  • Offensive Moves and Awareness: Throughout this camp players will focus on combinations of moves to beat defenders, create scoring opportunities, and learn how to read their defender. They will also learn to identify scoring opportunities and make the right offensive decisions through a variety of game like situational drills. As an athlete that is trying to make something happen we must understand turnovers and mistakes will happen and it is important to move on to the next play. Dwelling on mistakes only hurts our play and we must overcome these obstacles to perform at our best.

  • Competition: The second half of the week, players will get a chance to show what they have learned in a competitive setting by playing 1 v 1, 2 v 2, and 3 v 3. Prizes and awards may be given out for select games.
