2025 Summer Grind Series: Ball Handling Camp Location: LHBA South- 639 Gravois Bluffs Blvd H. Fenton, MO 63026 Drop off: 9am Pick up: 3pm Ages: 1st – 8th Description: Basketball has changed over the years and you will see at almost every position, athletes are encouraged to work on their ball handling skills. It is critical for all athletes to develop the fundamentals of ball handling and this is not easy, it will take years to develop and the sooner athletes start the faster you can develop into more complicated skills. In our summer camp, athletes will focus on learning the foundation of dribbling the basketball using primary drill such as pound dribbles to develop into more complicated skills such as between the legs and behind the back. Throughout these drills we expect our athletes to struggle learning these new skills but with encouragement from our coaches and a positive mindset, we will help all athletes improve as we progress through the week. As the week continues, we will translate the ball handling drills into competitive play as athletes will compete in various drills attacking the basket and handling defensive pressure. Athletes will also be informed on misdirection and counter moves as their is an opposition in basketball. Not only will athletes develop ball handling skills but will be encouraged to communicate amongst their peers and engage in team building aspects as well. Our Summer Camps are detailed to build peak performers on and off the floor. Training Focuses: Ball Handling Fundamentals: Players will focus on mastering basic and advanced ball handling skills through stationery and transitional drills. Proper hand placement, ball control, footwork, and body placement are a few of the many skills players will learn. Off-Hand Development: We will challenge players to use their less dominant hand by increasing reps every day at the beginning and end of each camp day. It is important for athletes to develop both hands at an early age to gain an edge on the competition. As this is challenging, athletes will be encouraged by our staff every step of the way. Combinations and Counter Moves: Players will develop an offensive awareness to know when to use certain moves in different scenarios. A major focus will be placed on using effective combinations while learning not to over dribble. Learning when and how to use these counters will be observed on the defenders hand and foot placement. As we continue to work on complicated skills it is to translate these skills into actual game play. Competition: Players will be challenged everyday by our Skill Development Coaches and their peers with different ball handling games and skill challenges. Communication, teamwork and player relationships will be developed throughout the week. Working together with new friends is a key component in basketball team play.
